Each day of the MLB season we will be releasing a “Morning Report” which will cover a variety of things.
- Spot-start Options
- Free Agent Adds
- Injury Report
- Weather Report
Mike Foltynewicz (@ MIA) | 49.2% Owned
Foltynewicz is a pretty obvious streamer tonight, but he’s close to 50 percent owned so he likely isn’t available in a lot of your leagues. Foltynewicz is coming off of his worst outing of the season, but he had a 2.53 ERA in his first six starts of the year.
The right-hander has a polished 3.83 xFIP, which ranks 40th among qualified starters—comparable to Trevor Bauer (38th) and Dallas Keuchel (41st). Helping Foltynewicz’s cause is a strong 10.46 K/9 and a matchup with the Marlins, who are dead last in runs scored per game (3.39) and OPS (.626).
Ian Kennedy (@ BAL) | 21.4% Owned
Foltynewicz faces the worst offence in the MLB and Kennedy will take on the second worst bats. The Orioles have the worst record (9-27) in baseball, so you won’t find better matchups tonight than the one Kennedy has.
The veteran right-hander has had five good outings and two bad starts, combining for a 2.92 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through seven games. Kennedy has been getting a little lucky, evidenced by his 3.95 xFIP, which is still solid and in the top-50 among qualified starters.
Kennedy has generated a strong number of strikeouts this season (8.51 K/9) and Baltimore has struck out the sixth most in the majors—9.5 K’s per game. In addition, they are 29th in runs per game (3.53) and OPS (.664), so they’re barely better than the Marlins and Kennedy is available in 30 percent more leagues than Foltynewicz.

Yolmer Sanchez (2B/3B) — White Sox — 19.6% Owned
Sanchez is locked into a starting job at third base in Chicago and has been hitting in the top-3 for the last few weeks. Sanchez, who slashed .284/.349/.375 across his minor league career, has built upon a strong 2017 season where ht hit .267 with 12 home runs, 59 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
The 25-year-old switch-hitter is riding a seven-game hitting streak (13-for-31 | .419 BA) which has pushed his batting average up to .302 to go along with 14 runs scored, one home run, 18 RBIs and three stolen bases. Sanchez has been hitting in the two-hole and will continue to do so as long as he is hitting. His dual-position eligibility makes him an intriguing add right now.
